The Project

In the winter months, the limit for microdust (PM10 - PM - Particulate Matter) is not only exceeded on more than 35 days in the Cities of Klagenfurt, Graz and Bolzano. In general motorized traffic is regarded as being the main source. Domestic heating comes second with a certain distance.

In the course of the EU LIFE Project KAPA GS (Klagenfurt's Anti- PM10 Action Programme with Graz and South Tyrol), different measures specific to the sources are tested and evaluated in the fields of reduction of MIT (Motorized Individual Traffic)/making PT (Public Transport) more attractive, street and road cleaning/winter service and domestic heating. For this purpose, a condensed network for measuring air quality and a computational model are used in the cities involved in real mode. The project is aimed at finding measures that will lead to a noticeable reduction in microdust (PM10) load and can also be transferred to other areas exposed to microdust (PM10) if these measures are implemented permanently.
